How your salary estimate works

What does this calculator include?

Australian resident income-tax rates, the tax-free threshold, the low income tax offset, Medicare levy, optional study loan repayments and a Medicare levy surcharge estimate based on your hospital cover selection. It assumes you are a single adult with no dependants, are not entitled to the seniors and pensioners tax offset, and earn the same salary for a full year.

Taxable and repayment income are assumed to be your cash salary, rounded down to whole dollars. Other income, deductions, reportable benefits, salary sacrifice and partial-year cover or exemptions are not included. Study loan repayments can be capped at the balance you enter; loan indexation is not modelled. Your salary inputs stay in your browser and are not included in contact enquiries.

Why is the 2026–27 Medicare estimate provisional?

The ATO currently publishes low-income Medicare thresholds through 2025–26. The 2026–27 estimate uses those confirmed single-person thresholds: no levy up to $28,011, then a phase-in of 10 cents per dollar above that threshold, capped at the standard 2% levy. Final 2026–27 thresholds may change your levy. Family reductions and the higher thresholds for eligible seniors and pensioners are not modelled.

How are super and inclusive salary packages calculated?

Employer super is shown separately from take-home pay, before contributions tax. A package including super is split into cash salary and super using your chosen rate. The default rate is 12% for both years. By default it applies to the full salary; select the contribution base limit if that matches your arrangement.

The 2026–27 annual contribution base limit is $270,830. For 2025–26, the calculation models four equal quarters at $62,500 each. Uneven earnings, multiple employers, overtime, employment agreements and contribution tax or caps can affect your actual super. This is not a payroll compliance calculation.

Does this tell me whether I am paid fairly?

It estimates what you keep from your salary under the selected tax assumptions. It does not compare your role with market salaries or check your award classification and entitlements. A free consultation is a starting point to discuss your role, current pay and whether a specialist review would help.
